TEDxUVA 2016: Sights Unseen

TEDxUVA’s Sights Unseen conference brought together community members, U.Va. students and faculty, and a collection of thinkers, innovators, and makers who believe in the power of ideas to positively change the world.

On February 20th, Charlottesville residents and U.Va. students and faculty gathered at the Darden School of Business’ Abbott Auditorium for TEDxUVA’s Sights Unseen conference. Speakers, including National Geographic photographer Annie Griffiths, incoming Law Dean Risa Goluboff, Radical Founder Arthur Wu, and Next Generation Nepal founder Conor Grennan, who spoke on a variety of topics from information overload to using gut bacteria as an antibiotic. Guests were treated to inspiring talks, talented performers, and delicious food as part of this year’s conference. Sights Unseen brought together thinkers, innovators, and makers who believe in the power of ideas to positively change the world.

The 2016 TEDxUVA conference, Sights Unseen, was held at the Darden School of Business’ Abbott Auditorium.

Prior to the start of the conference, guests were treated to complementary donuts and coffee from Carpe Donut.

The impressive line-up of speakers boasted names such as Annie Griffiths – one of the first female photographers for National Geographic.

Curry School of Education professor, Ben Castleman, was among the U.Va. faculty to speak at this year’s conference.

Conference attendees were treated to free food from local Charlottesville vendors including The Pie Guy, Mouth Wide Open, and SouthFork Food Truck.

During lunch, guests had the opportunity to mix and mingle with speakers and ask specific questions about their topics of study.

Sights Unseen drew a diverse crowd – U.Va. students and faculty and Charlottesville residents were all in attendance.

Student Speaker Competition winner and rADical founder, Arthur Wu, spoke about how design can effect the way people interpret information.

The 2016 TEDxUVA conference featured performers as well as speakers, including poetry reading by Will Brewbaker.
